Mount Women’s Tennis Edges Lehigh, 4-3, in Spring Opener; Mount Men drops games against Lehigh and James Madison
February 5, 2023The Mount St. Mary’s women’s tennis team opened the spring season on Sunday with a 4-3 victory over Lehigh. The men’s team had a few games and fell to James Madison and Lehigh today.
For the women, Ana Alvarez-Storni’s victory over No. 6 singles secured the Mount’s 4–3 win. Storni recorded a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Lehigh’s Bella Peter’s. The Mount also collected wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles. Amber Policare swept past Junmoke James, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 2 spot while Beautiful fisherman was an easy 6-4, 6-1 winner over Allyce Gaborik on No. 4 singles.
The Mount won two of three doubles matches to secure the double for the first point in the game. Policare and Pescatore won 6-4 against Anushka Dania and Megha Dania at number 1 with Victoria Papadopoulou and Shirley Laing past Hansa Javagal and Peters, 7-6 (7-3) on number 3 doubles.
On the men’s side, the Mount fell to James Madison by a score of 7-0, while also falling to Lehigh by a 6-1 margin. The Mount’s only point of the day in the men’s action was securing the double point on Lehigh. Elliot Stevens And John Abriola won at No. 1 doubles, 7-6 (7-4) while Jarrett Carnibad And Philippos Zachiotis earned a 6–3 victory over No. 3 doubles over Lehigh.
The Mount men’s tennis team will return to the courts on Sunday 12 February with a match in Temple. The Mount women’s tennis team will be in action in West Virginia on Saturday, February 11.
