Dukes remain fifth in ILWomen/IWLCA Poll
NORTHBOROUGH, Massachusetts. For the second week in a row, James Madison enters lacrosse fifth in the country of the week and remains No. 5 in Monday’s ILWomen/IWLCA Division Poll.
JMU remained in the IWLCA’s first top five since the 2019 preseason poll, having last been ranked No. 5 or better on the season during the 2018 National Championship.
JMU got its ninth and tenth consecutive wins last week, with a 10-8 win at home to No. 12 Virginia on Wednesday and by the same margin at Temple on Saturday. The win over Virginia required a comeback in the fourth quarter, as JMU trailed by two goals on three separate occasions during the game, including with 14:09 left in the fourth quarter.
A week with six goals for seniors Or Jankowski and eight total points of Isabella Peterson led the dukes offensive. in defense, Kat Buchanan suppressed counterattacks for 21 saves and a .568 save percentage for the week. Rachel Mate scored the tie 10 total for the week, including a season-high eight against Virginia, adding a caused turnover and two ground balls to her defensive stats this week.
The Dukes enter the final month of the season with just six games remaining on the regular season roster. JMU will face in-state and American Athletic Conference foe Old Dominion at noon on Saturday at Sentara Park.
