BOSTON (WHDH) – The Bruins have taken a big step towards resuming their season on Monday, holding their first team practice – despite losing several players due to coronavirus issues – since the pandemic ended the sport in March.
Practice in the TD Garden came when the NHL entered phase three of its shortened season restart plan.
“It was fun to drive to the rink today, knowing it will be past phase 2, it will be more than 12 boys on the rink, the whole group is coming,” said Patrice Bergeron.
“It was a lot of fun to be on the ice today with all the boys and lots of smiling faces,” said Torey Krug. “Always nice to go out with the brothers and just compete with each other.”
The team came from six players, most notably David Pastrnak, who continues testing after returning from the Czech Republic. Head coach Bruce Cassidy said the players would continue to follow safety protocols while practicing, including wearing masks.
“We’ll follow that protocol until we’re told otherwise,” Cassidy said. “I know we were told during the games that the mask is not needed, but for now we are trying to use as much as possible.”
