Variety Village Hosts North American VOLT Hockey Tournament This Weekend – Beach Metro Community News

Variety Village on Danforth Avenue in southwest Scarborough will host the North American VOLT Hockey Tournament on May 27-28.

The North American VOLT Hockey Tournament takes place this weekend (Saturday, May 27 and Sunday, May 28) at Variety Village in southwest Scarborough.

Presented by the Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni Association and the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL), the tournament features teams from Alberta, London, Manitoba, Ontario and Boston.

VOLT hockey is an inclusive, accessible form of hockey, with a specially designed hockey sports seat that is played by people with different disabilities, especially those with limited upper mobility.

We are thrilled to host this tournament and provide the opportunity for children of all skill levels to play Canada’s national sport, said Karen Stintz, President and Chief Operating Officer of Variety Village in a press release.

We are grateful to the GTHL and the Maple Leafs Alumni Association for their support and dedication to getting kids off the sidelines and into the game.

Canada’s first VOLT hockey team started in 2016 with a handful of donors and sponsors at Variety Village in Scarborough. Since then, new teams have started in London, Niagara, Newmarket and soon Barrie.

The league is also growing nationally with two teams based in Alberta, one in Edmonton and one in Calgary.

Variety Village is located at 3701 Danforth Ave., just east of Birchmount Road.

The winning team will have the opportunity to travel to Denmark to compete in the VOLT Hockey World Championships.

In 2022, members of the Variety Villages team representing Ontario played in the VOLT World Cup in Sweden and won a silver medal.
