NDSU Wrestlings Silvis qualifies for U20 World Championships
FARGO, ND NDSU wrestling Zak Silvis headlined performances for the Bison at the U23 Nationals and U20 World Team Trials in Geneva, Ohio this past weekend.
Silvis won the 55 kg Greco-Roman Challenge Tournament and best-of-three finals at the 2023 U20 World Team Trials, qualifying for the USA Wrestling U20 World Team.
After falling in the opening match against Kenneth Crosby, Silvis took 7-6 and 4-1 victories to win the 55 kg final. To reach the final, Silvis recorded a victory by falling to Roberto Estrada in the final of the Challenge Tournament in 1:16, after a 5-3 victory over Anthony Ruzic in the semi-finals and a 9-0 victory by technical fall (2:05) over Davis Motyka in the quarterfinals.
In the U23 Greco-Roman nationals, Kelly’s march And Clay Radenz achieved placement finishes. March was fourth with 72 kg and Radenz was fifth overall with 72 kg. In the U23 Freestyle Nationals, Spencer Mooberry recorded a placement finish and was fourth overall with 97 kg.
With his win, Silvis will compete for Team USA at the United World Wrestling 2023 U20 World Championships from August 14-20. The event takes place in Warsaw, Poland.
