Bolton Council agrees new program for IRONMAN 70.3 Bolton from 2024 Bolton Council
Bolton has capped off another successful IRONMAN triathlon event by confirming a new deal to host IRONMAN 70.3 Bolton from 2024.
The district has been home to IRONMAN since 2009 and has since added the world’s largest IRONKIDS event and the popular Night Run.
In this new program, IRONMAN UK will now become IRONMAN 70.3 Bolton, meaning the race will still follow the swim-cycle-run format, but will be half the distance across all disciplines.
The change comes as IRONMAN UK is restructuring its racing calendar more broadly and athletes will continue to enjoy the very best racing in Bolton and the surrounding area.
Both Night Run, who are affiliated with England Athletics, and the ever-popular IRONKIDS will continue with increased capacity to allow even more participants and youngsters to enjoy the runs in Bolton.
This program underscores Bolton as a host venue for major international events and will continue to provide a significant boost to the local economy.
Each year, the IRONMAN weekend brings in an estimated £3.9 million in Bolton, as thousands of athletes and spectators take advantage of the town’s excellent food and retail offerings.
Hosting major events is an important part of Bolton Council’s visitor and cultural strategies, drawing crowds to the town centre, boosting the economy and presenting the council to a global audience.
In addition to the economic benefit, Bolton’s long-standing relationship with IRONMAN has also created a sporting legacy.
Many residents have been inspired to take part in the endurance event, get fit and improve their physical and mental well-being. This includes 102 local participants in this year’s IRONMAN from Bolton.
