The Kansas football facility was evacuated for a short time Monday; KUPD has arrested the suspect

The Anderson Family Football Complex, Beatty Family Pavilion and David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium were evacuated Monday night and searched by police officers following a bomb threat, the University of Kansas Police Department said in a brief press release.

Sergeant Damon Tucker, an interim deputy chief at KUPD who currently performs public information duties, wrote in an email that “no devices were found and police released everything at about 8:01 p.m.” — five hours after the threat was initially made.

KUPD arrested a suspect “for making the threats,” Tucker wrote, but has so far declined to identify the suspect.

As of Tuesday morning, Joseph Michael Krause, 21, who was arrested at 4:35 a.m., is the only person booked since early Monday by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on relevant charges (“Aggravated Criminal Threat; Cause of Terror, Evacuation, or Disturbance”), according to the agency’s Booking Recap Report.

“We are aware of a situation involving one of our student-athletes,” KU Athletics wrote in a statement on Tuesday morning. “We take the safety of our employees, student-athletes and coaches very seriously. We are gathering more information and will not comment further at this time.”

Tucker did not respond Tuesday morning to an emailed question from the Journal-World about whether Krause had been arrested for the threat at the football facility.
