UST on track for four-stroke in the overall race for season 82 of the UAAP – The Manila Times

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) is currently poised to win a fourth consecutive general championship in season 82 of the University Sports Association of the Philippines (UAAP), with the resumption of college leagues still pending in reason for the suspension of classes to help curb the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.

The Golden Tigers have accumulated 209 points so far after winning five titles and winning multiple podiums in various sports, which puts them in a good position to extend their dominance for a league record, 44 general championship.

The UST won a double gold medal in the men's and women's beach volleyball tournaments and also dominated both divisions of the table tennis competition.

The Espaa-based school also won the men's judo championship while taking second place among women.

The UST men's and women's basketball teams both ranked at Ateneo de Manila University and National University (NU), respectively, although their teams chess and tae kwon do for men also recorded silver finishes.

UST finished third in the men's swimming, women's chess and men's tae kwon do tournaments.

De La Salle University ranks second in the overall championship standings with 181 points anchored on a lone crown at tae kwon do and a handful of finalist performances while Ateneo is behind third with 162 points built on four trophies in men's basketball, swimming and women's badminton.

The University of the Philippines is in 4th place with 137 points, followed by NU (117 markers), the Far East (94), the University of the East (92) and from Adamson University (53).

UAAP recently announced the cancellation of regular formats for postponed college volleyball and men's football tournaments and sports that have not yet started women's football, baseball, softball, 39; athletics, field tennis and 3 × 3 basketball.

Meanwhile, with the cancellation of the remaining events in the high school division, UST is expected to win a sixth consecutive general championship and a 21st overall.
