Women's tennis sweeps Southern Miss, 4-0
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team earned a 4-0 victory over Southern Mississippi on Monday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
With the win, Samford improved to 3-2 on the young season. Southern Miss fell to 2-3 with the loss.
In doubles, Samford won in the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to capture the first point of the match. On the number 1 doubles court, Alexis Lopez And Noelle Mauro defeated Alyssa Richter and Hannah Chambers 7-5. In No. 3 doubles, Meredith Taylor And Grace Keller achieved a 6-4 victory over Angelina Blinova and Malannia Vashkevich. Southern Miss won at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Samford picked up wins over No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3, completing the 4-0 victory. The match at No. 4 had not ended and the matches at No. 5 and No. 6 had not started. At No. 1 singles, Lopez defeated Richter 6-3, 7-6. On the number 2 singles court, Emily Surcey defeated Chambers 6-2, 6-2. At number 3 singles, Ally Hayduk beat Zenn Lim 3-0 and retired.
Samford next plays in Memphis on Sunday, February 18. The game starts at 2:00 PM from Memphis, Tennessee.
