SLU ends regular season with 5-2 loss at UNO
NEW ORLEANS, La The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team closed out the regular season Friday afternoon with a 5-2 Southland Conference loss to New Orleans at the Privateer Tennis Center.
UNO (8-8, 5-2 SLC) took the doubles point and won four of six singles matches, snapping a two-match winning streak to Southeastern (9-11, 2-5 SLC).
New Orleans took a 1-0 lead after scoring doubles wins on courts 2 and 3. The Privateers took the win with outright singles wins on courts 1, 2 and 5.
At number 6, freshman SLU Defeat Bolsova (7-4, 3-1 SLC) won her third straight match for the Lions, defeating Audelia Kougoucheff 6-3, 6-1. Southeastern Claudia di Leonardo (5-9, 4-3 SLC) also extended her singles win streak to three, edging past Kate Kalistratova for a 5-7, 7-5, 10-3 win.
The final singles match also came down to three sets. On lane 3, UNO's Tristanne Dechoux outlasted first-year student Lion Bente Bierma6-4, 0-6, 6-4.
“We struggled in doubles and against a high-caliber team like UNO, winning four singles matches is a tough challenge,” said Southeastern's head coach. Jason Hayes said. “We played hard and had our chances, but they were the better team today. We will use this weekend to recover and get ready for the postseason.”
The Lions now begin preparations for the Southland Conference Championships, which take place April 18-21 in San Antonio.
