Men's golf concludes day one at NCAA Stanford Regional
STANFORD, California. Junior Pablo Ereño shot a 2-under 68 in the first round of the NCAA Stanford Regional at Stanford Golf Course on Monday, finishing in the top 20. The UCLA men's golf team finished in sixth place at 3 under (277) on the first day of action.
As a junior, Ereño finished in a shared 19th place on the individual rankings Omar Morales and sophomores Kyle An both shot 1-under 69 in the first round and ranked 23rd on the day one leaderboard.
Bruins freshmen Lucas Powell fired a 1-over 71 on Monday, while graduate student Mason Green finished with a 4-over 74.
Ereño and An each scored four birdies, with Morales recording a pair of birdies on the first day of action.
Through day one, Illinois sits in first place after ending the afternoon with a team score of 17 under (263) at Stanford Golf Course.
UCLA has advanced to the NCAA Regional Round for the first time since the 2018-19 season and is seeking its first berth to the NCAA Championships since 2017-18.
The bottom five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance through Wednesday's action to the NCAA Championships, which will take place at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
The Bruins return to action on Tuesday, May 14 at 9 a.m. PT for the second of three consecutive days at Stanford Golf Course. UCLA opens the back nine holes Tuesday morning.
