Kraft advances to NCAA championships for second straight season
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Senior javelin thrower Matt Kraft advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday to headline the opening day of competition for the North Dakota State men's track and field team during the NCAA West preliminaries.
Kraft (Bismarck, ND) returns to the NCAA Championships for the second straight year, throwing 234-0 (71.32m) for seventh place in the javelin on Wednesday. The top 12 finishers from each event will head to Eugene, Oregon, for the national competition.
Bison Sophomore Jarod White tied for 17th place in the pole vault, with a lead of 17-01.50 (5.22 m).
Senior Cam Landis placed 24th in the shot put, throwing 58-04.50 (17.79 m) for his second-best result of the season. His 24th-place finish was a 19-place improvement from his pre-meet ranking of 43rd in the West.
NDSUs Michael Haugo finished his freshman season with a 24th-place finish in the long jump, with a mark of 24-07.25 (7.50 m). He entered the competition ranked 39th in the West and outperformed that ranking by 15 spots.
Junior Jacob Van Dusseldorp for his NCAA West Prelims debut ranked 36th in the pole vault, with a lead of 16-07.50 (5.07 m).
Due to the forecast of inclement weather, Thursday's event schedule has been adjusted as the NDSU women compete in Arkansas. The hammer and javelin were moved up 90 minutes, while the long jump and all running events start three hours earlier than originally planned.
