Parks closes out NCAA East Regionals
LEXINGTON, Ky UNCW hurdlerJosh Parksclocked a time of 50.61 in the men's 400-meter hurdles during Friday night's NCAA quarterfinals of the NCAA Outdoor East Preliminaries at the University of Kentucky Track & Field Complex.
Parks' time was good for 13th among 24 racers in the regional final round and was just 0.06 seconds behind Howard's Noah Langford, who finished 12th and advanced to the NCAA Nationals in early June.
The Kannapolis, N.C. product improved his first-lap time of 51.21 from Wednesday to advance to his second straight NCAA quarterfinal appearance. Parks became the first Seahawk to advance to the National Championship in the men's 110-meter hurdles last year.
Friday concludes a strong three-day East Regional for eight Seahawk student-athletes, the most in 14 years. Parks, along withJT Allen(men's 110M hurdles),Nickolis Anderson(men's 400 meters),Ryan DeBarber(Men's javelin),Miles Higgins(Men's javelin),Bryson Robinson(Men's Long Jump),Courtney lines(Women's long jump) andJordyn Robbins(Women'sJavelin), represented UNCW at the national level with impressive feathers.
Eight participants are the mostThe Jeff Klaves erathat has increased in NCAA qualifiers in each season of his tenure. The Seahawks have combined for 14 NCAA Regional athletes over the past two seasons.
UNCW tied for the most men's qualifiers (six) in the CAA this season.
