Prep tennis, one win away from the championship
The St. Johns Prep tennis team has punched its ticket to the Division 1 championship match. The No. 1 Eagles defeated No. 4 Lexington 4-1 on Monday night.
First singles John DeAngelis didn't lose a match, beating Ronak Wakhlu 6-0, 6-0. Second singles Jack Prokopis took care of his opponent to win 6-2, 6-0.
Luke Free and Darius Jin battled in the first set, with Free taking a tough 7-5 set win. Free made adjustments and outplayed his opponent in the second set, winning 6-0 for the Eagles.
First doubles Luke Prokopis and Boris Kouzminov showed their resilience. The duo trailed 3-6 after the first set, but regrouped and won the next two sets 6-1, 6-4 for the win.
The second doubles team had a tough match, losing 3-6, 2-6 to Lexington.
The Eagles are back in the championship game and are expected to be crowned champions when they take on the winner of No. 2 Concord-Carlisle and No. 6 Brookline.
