T20 World Cup: Ireland and Pakistan face nervous weather as storms and heavy rain await in Florida
Tropical storms and flooding have jeopardized the last three T20 World Cup group matches in the United States, but organizers are highly unlikely to move them from Florida.
The New York leg of the tournament ended with India's victory over the US on Wednesday, and the action will now take place at Lauderhill's Central Broward Park.
Three matches remain in Group A, with co-hosts USA, Ireland, Canada and Pakistan all still in contention to qualify for the Super 8s alongside India.
However, Florida has been hit by heavy downpours after record rains in recent days with more of the same forecasts.
The US National Weather Service has issued warnings of “excessive rainfall” for Friday morning when the US heads into Ireland (3.30pm BST).
Central Broward Park ground staff were able to take the covers off on Thursday to start the drying process, but neither Ireland nor the US are likely to train outside before the match.
The 25,000-capacity stadium, which opened in 2007, has good drainage facilities and organizers are still optimistic the games can go ahead if the weather holds.
Sri Lanka's match against Nepal on June 11 – the only other match scheduled to be played at the Lauderhill ground – was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
It is considered extremely unlikely that the International Cricket Council would move the remaining matches to another venue at such short notice.
