Erick Harper appointed to NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee – Mountain West Conference

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com)–UNLV director of athletics Erick Harper has been named to the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee.
Harper, who is entering his fourth year as an AD at UNLV, joins 12 other members of the committee, which is chaired by Pittsburgh AD Heather Lyke.
The committee has a voting member from each Football Bowl Subdivision conference, with Harper representing the Mountain West. His term runs until June 30, 2025, after which he will be eligible for reappointment.
“It is an honor to serve in this important role,” said Harper. “It is a great responsibility to be part of helping shape the future of sports and I remain committed to representing the interests of our student-athletes, coaches and institutions while contributing to the continued success of college football in the future.”
The Football Oversight Committee is made up of representatives from each division subgroup that sponsors football and works with the appropriate governing bodies to provide solutions to issues affecting the health and safety of football student-athletes. The committee shall provide appropriate supervision of football for both the Football Bowl Subdivision and the Football Championship Subdivision and enhance the development of the sport by making recommendations regarding regular season and post-season football. The committee prioritizes improving the student-athlete educational experience (academic and athletic), and promoting student-athletes' personal growth and leadership development.
The committee also oversees postseason bowl licensing procedures and FCS Championship qualification and/or selection procedures. In addition, it provides guidance to the NCAA Football Rules Committee regarding the rules of the game for FBS and FCS football.
The NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee was created in 2015 as part of changes to the Division I governance structure. Committees make recommendations to the Division I Council, which advances those recommendations as legislation.
