2 OU football players arrested, 3rd listed in OKC nightclub police report
Two University of Oklahoma football players have been released after being arrested less than two weeks apart. Now News 9 is hearing about a third alleged incident involving another OU football player at an Oklahoma City nightclub.
Redshirt junior wide receiver Deion Burks was arrested June 1 and charged in Cleveland County with driving under the influence, open container and speeding.
Sophomore defensive back Makari Vickers was arrested by OU police early Wednesday morning.
The university is not yet releasing information about Vicker's arrest.
News 9 has made multiple requests to OU Police asking why he was arrested and booked into the Clevland County Jail. So far, those questions have remained unanswered.
In the Burk case, an Oklahoma Highway Patrolman wrote in a report that before 3 a.m. on June 1, the 21-year-old's black BMW abruptly changed lanes around other drivers on Interstate 35 near Indian Hills Road while traveling at a speed of 24 miles per hour on the highway. the speed limit of 65 miles per hour.
The Trooper said he discovered an open bottle of tequila and Burks admitted he had been drinking at an Oklahoma City nightclub called Sin City and was just trying to get home. According to the report, Burks blew a blood alcohol content of 0.09.
On Wednesday, a Cleveland County judge denied a protective order filed by a woman who claims a third player spit in her face outside the Sin City nightclub on June 1 before punching her friend in the face. That friend filed a report with the Oklahoma City police.
The woman said in an affidavit, “I don't feel safe with him.” News 9 is not naming the third player because no arrests have been made.
The university sent News 9 a statement about the arrests of both Burks and Vickers, saying they were “aware of the matter” and that it is “being addressed internally.”
