Azam Khan is a 'compromise': Ex-director says Pakistani cricketer is 'not serious' about playing international cricket
An explosive domestic player for Pakistan, Azam Khan is yet to show his potential in the international tournaments. The fans and cricket veterans have expressed their concerns about his fitness and approach to the game. Former Pakistan team director Mohammad Hafeez shed some light on Azam Khan's fitness routine and said that it is very different from that of the other players. Hafeez said that Azam Khan takes almost twice as much time to complete a fitness task compared to his teammates.
“The entire Pakistani team can cover two kilometers in 10 minutes while Azam Khan takes 20 minutes to cover the distance. Unfortunately, Azam Khan is not serious about playing international cricket,” Hafeez said.
“Being empty or too big is never a problem for me, but you have to work according to the needs of the game. You have to bring your fitness to the required level. We gave him a fitness plan, but he [Azam] couldn't improve. You are in the team because of your talent, but you have to respond in terms of fitness. You are the only one in the team on whom we have compromised on fitness,” he added.
Hafeez's comments came days after Azam Khan's video went viral on the internet where he can be seen munching street food in New York at midnight. The fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the way the batsman is behaving even after being removed from the team.
Pakistan is facing heat
Not only Azam Khan but the entire Pakistan team is facing severe criticism from their fans who seem disappointed with the team's performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup so far. Pakistan suffered a major setback in the first match of the tournament as hosts USA defeated the 2009 world champions in the Super Over.
Defeat against India in the next match made matters worse for Pakistan and their qualification rests on the performance of the US and Ireland.
