Rowings Jensen named CRCA Athlete of the Year
Austin, Texas Texas Rowing Anna Jensen was named the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division I Athlete of the Year, the organization announced Friday.
Jensen is the second student-athlete from Texas to receive CRCA Division I Athlete of the Year, joining former Longhorn Fran Raggi, who captured the prestigious honor in 2022.
'It's been a joy to watch over the past four years Anna Jensen row, and almost everyone who rode at the launch heard me say, 'Jensen is really good,'” said the Texas head coach Dave O'Neill. “Anna (Jensen) has won many races and set numerous records on our team, but what she and her teammates accomplished together this year was the most impressive. Together with her classmates, Anna had a renewed sense of doing what's best for the team and making her teammates better every day, and in doing so, her teammates brought out the very best in Anna. I am truly impressed and forever grateful to have worked with her.
Now in its third year of operation, the CRCA Athlete of the Year Award provides a unique opportunity for the organization to recognize and recognize the individual efforts, impactful actions and remarkable results achieved during the academic year. The award is intended to highlight a student-athlete who was a top performer in a sport where individual recognition is so rare.
A three-time CRCA First Team All-American, three-time national champion and the 2024 Big 12 Rower of the Year, Jensen was instrumental in helping Texas win its third NCAA championship in 2024, its third national crown in a span of four year.
The Midland, Michigan product helped the Texas I Eight to an undefeated season with UT winning every race in 2024. Under Jensen's leadership, the Texas I Eight has gone undefeated in three of the past four seasons.
Jensen led the Texas First Varsity Eight to a national championship on June 2 in Bethel, Ohio, closing the national regatta with a thrilling victory (6:09.920) to claim the program's third Varsity Eight national crown. Princeton had an early lead through the first 500 meters of the race, but Texas quickly gained the lead and never relinquished it over the remaining 1,500 meters. Texas continued to build its lead throughout the race, expanding its lead to half a boat length as the Longhorns crossed the finish line.
