OUTSTANDING GIRLS TENNIS PLAYER: My-Anh Holmes, Willow
Willow junior My-Anh Holmes won the Division II girls tennis state championship for the third year in a row, defeating younger sister My-Linh, also of Willow, in the state final.
The elder Holmes defeated My-Linh 6-1, 6-0 in the state final. The sisters also met in the regional final, won by My-Anh.
(My-Anh is) a fantastic tennis player, Willow coach Gian Balsamo said. She is aggressive on the court with her shot, where many girls are a little shy about going for some shots. Her skill level is very high.
Holmes, a UC Santa Barbara commit, is listed by the U.S. Tennis Association as the top-ranked girls tennis player for girls 18 and under in Louisiana.
Holmes has won all 28 sets in her fourteen matches at the state level over the past three seasons with scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
She is a very consistent player, Balsamo said. Plays at a super high level. She is a promising college student.
Willow, formerly Lusher, has been home to a girls singles state champion for the past eight seasons, excluding the 2020 season that was canceled by the pandemic. Gavriella Smith has won five in a row since 2016.
