The Wisconsin Quartet headed to Paris as members of the U.S. Olympic rowing team
ROSEMONT, Ill. Four former University of Wisconsin student-athletes are heading to Paris to represent the United States in the 2024 Olympic Games.
Lauren OConnor and Grace Joyce are both first-time Olympians and will compete together in the women's quadruple event. The duo helped their crew qualify after beating Ukraine in the World Rowing Final of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Qualifying Regatta.
OConnor and Joyce join Sophia Vitas and two-time Olympian Madeleine Wanamaker to round out this year's Big Ten contingent. Vitas will make her debut in the women's double sculls, while Wanamaker, who finished seventh in the women's fours at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, will race in the women's eights.
The last time Wisconsin had four rowers compete in the same Olympics was at the 1992 Games in Barcelona, Spain. The Badgers also had four women on the 1988 Olympic team in Seoul, South Korea.
