Six from field hockey and lacrosse earn all-district academic awards
EWING, NJ TCNJ Hockey Standouts Rayhanah Ahmed And Claire Engebreth joined lacrosse stars Julia Charest, Kileigh Pfluger, Kira KantenAnd Ally Tobler about the College Sports Communicators Women's At-Large Academic All-District Team, announced Tuesday by the organization.
The 2023-2024 Academic All-District Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined achievements on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program individually recognizes honorees in four divisions NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-America first, second and third team winners will be announced on July 16 (women) and July 17 (men).
Ahmed, a nursing major with a 3.67 GPA, was a first-team All-American and the 2023 NJAC Offensive Player of the Year, collecting first-team All-American honors for the third year in a row NJAC and the first team in the entire region. She is a three-year member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad and the NJAC All-Academic Team.
Engebreth, a Computer Science major with a 3.75 GPA, was named NJAC Co-Midfielder of the Year last fall, also earning third-team All-America and first-team all-region recognition. She is a three-year member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad and the NJAC All-Academic Team.
Charest, a special education major with a 3.69 GPA, earned first-team all-region honors for the second year in a row and first-team All-NJAC honors for the third straight season. She received an All-America honorable mention from US Lacrosse and is a three-year member of the NJAC All-Academic Team.
A graduate student in Strategy, Innovation and Leadership with a 3.80 GPA, Pfluger was a star in both field hockey and lacrosse during her time at TCNJ. She was the NJAC Defensive Player of the Year and a third-team All-American in hockey in 2022 and received first-team all-region honors in lacrosse in 2024. She is a four-time NJAC All-Academic Team honoree.
Sides, an elementary education major with a 3.52 GPA, collected first-team All-NJAC and first-team All-Region honors in 2024. She is a two-time member of the NJAC All-Academic Team.
Tobler, an English Secondary/Special Education major with a 3.55 GPA, repeated on the IWLCA All-America first team this spring, also earning second-team honors from US Lacrosse. Tobler is a three-time first-team all-region player and two-time NJAC Offensive Player of the Year. He is a three-time NJAC All-Academic Team honoree.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America programs are financially supported in part by the NCAA Division II and III national governing structures to assist CSC in handling the awards ceremony aspects for the Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs 2023-24.
