The expansion of the Tennis Center includes additional courts

A major expansion of the Huntsville Tennis Center will meet the increased demand for more courts and significantly upgrade the facility at John Hunt Park to attract more events.
City officials have approved a $4,639,000 construction contract with Chorba Contracting Corporation to build 10 hard courts with lights and renovate six existing hard courts to clay courts. The project also includes a small restroom pavilion to support the courts, additional parking, sidewalks, landscaping and irrigation.
Construction will take approximately 16 months. When complete, the Tennis Center will offer 36 soft courts and 10 hard courts for local and tournament play.
“We're excited,” said Joc Simmons, tennis director at the Tennis Center. “We were full of tournaments in the evenings, so this will help alleviate some of our overflow. We have to turn people away in the evenings. This will help get everyone on the court.”
Simmons said the expansion will allow the tennis center to compete in more tournaments, potentially bringing 500 players to Huntsville.
We have been working on this project for a long time and were eager to get construction started, said James Gossett, Director of Parks & Recreation. The Tennis Center is a key part of the offer at John Hunt Park and we were pleased to see that this facility could accommodate more players.
