Where did the Rattlers' outgoing transfers end up?
The NCAA Transfer Portal ensures that student-athletes can find a new home.
Typically, players transfer from their previous team for a variety of reasons, such as a chance to play in a higher conference or more playing time.
Because Florida A&M has attracted a recruiting class that most Football Bowl-to-Football Championship subdivision transfersThe Rattlers have also lost many key players to the portal since winning the Celebration Bowl for the Black College National Championship.
Oftentimes, roster turnover is something FCS and HBCU teams navigate each offseason as players pursue other opportunities. Overhauls can also occur when teams have new head coaches, as FAMU does in James Colzie III.
This is where FAMUs transfer and land after entering the portal.
Success at FAMU leads to Power 5 soccer transfer opportunities
FAMU will be well represented in Power Five college football conferences.
Two former Rattlers defensive linemen, Gentle Hunt and Sheriff Seyewill play in the Big 10. Hunt transferred from FAMU to Illinois, while Seye went to UCLA.
Hunt played at FAMU from 2021-2023 and collected 89 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks and two forced fumbles and fumble recoveries apiece. Hunt was a 2023 All-Southwestern Athletic Conference Second Team selection.
Seye played at FAMU in 2023, transferring from Southeastern Louisiana. Seye made 22 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble for the Rattlers.
Former FAMU linebacker Johnny Chaney Jr. now plays under head coach Deion Sanders for the Colorado Buffaloes. Chaney's arrival in Colorado reunites him with former Rattlers recruiting director Devin Rispress, who is now the Buffaloes' assistant director of player personnel and high school relations.
Chaney played at FAMU from 2021 to 2023 and became a constant for the Dark Cloud Defense as he left the Rattlers with 141 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Chaney earned All-SWAC Second Team honors in 2023.
More FAMU players are transferring to ascend to the NCAA Division I FBS level
Three former Rattlers now play in the Mid-American Conference.
FAMU's star defenseman, Anthony Dunn Jr., transferred to play for the Toledo Rockets. Dunn, a 2023 All-SWAC First Team selection, played two seasons for the Rattlers after transferring from FBS program Marshall.
After a breakout performance in the 2022 Florida Classic, Dunn earned a regular starting spot at FAMU, where he recorded 54 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, and a forced fumble and fumble recovery apiece during his time with the Rattlers. Dunn led the Rattlers with eight sacks in 2023.
Former FAMU wide receiver Trevonte Davis returns to his home state to play for Central Michigan. The Flint native spent 2022 and 2023 at FAMU after transferring from Wayne State.
Davis battled injuries during his tenure and caught seven catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Davis FAMU touchdowns came in the team's season openers in 2022 against North Carolina and 2023 against Jackson State.
Former FAMU long-snapper Emmet Rhoades will now play for the Akron Zips. He joined FAMU in 2023 but did not appear in games.
Here are other notable FAMU transfers that have come through the portal
Zaire Riley from Tallahassee is heading an hour north to play for Division II football powerhouse Valdosta State.
Defensive back Riley joined FAMU in 2022 from Havana's Gadsden County High School. He redshirted in 2022, but saw action in four games in 2023.
In 2022, Riley became seen on ESPN for a remarkable one-handed interception he made during a Rattlers fall training camp practice.
Former FAMU receiver Kareem Burke resides in the SWAC. He transferred to Arkansas-Pine Bluff of the SWAC West division. At FAMU, Burke showed flashes of his running and catching ability for the Rattlers.
In 2023, Burke rushed eight times for 85 yards and a touchdown and secured six catches for 113 yards and a touchdown.
Former FAMU defenseman Eagle Gray He transferred to Itawamba Community College, where he will likely return to Division I football if he performs well.
Gray saw just two games of action as a freshman at FAMU in 2023, earning one tackle.
Gray is a household name in Florida, however, as he has racked up over 2,000 rushing yards and 37 total touchdowns, earning the Jacksonville Times-Unions All-First Coast Offensive Player of the Year award as a senior running back for University Christian in 2022.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
