Tennis star Eugenie Bouchard believes the sport's 'sex appeal' has played a role in her popularity

Eugenie Bouchard has won almost 300 matches in her career and came very close to winning Wimbledon in 2014, and she recently revealed that she owes much more in her life to the sport.

Bouchard became embroiled in a viral bet in 2017 when she struck a deal with a fan: If the Atlanta Falcons lost the Super Bowl to the New England Patriots, they would go on a date. And they did.

Bouchard also leveraged her tennis career by appearing in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

She said in a recent podcast interview that tennis helped her open up about her sex appeal.

“Tennis is a great sport primarily because of the sex appeal side of it,” the Canadian-born tennis star said on “Not Alone, a Podcast with Valeria Lipovetsky.” “We wore short skirts. We wore tank tops. It's fun to turn on the TV and watch that.

“I was able to close some great marketing deals off the field right away. I was asked to be in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue a couple of times. Exploring that path was definitely on my to-do list. It's definitely part of who I am because I love it.”

Bouchard added that she found herself enjoying the attention more and more and began to consider coming out of her shell.

“Just growing my fan base, my audience, which in turn helps me get better brand deals, better recommendations. Not just in a personal way for me, okay, I can actually make more money from this, but in a general sense. Okay , we have someone who might be a casual fan coming to the Miami Open to see me play. That's good for tennis in general, for women's tennis, for women's sports.

Bouchard, 30, is now ranked 522 in the WTA.
