Trinidad and Tobago ping pong team heads to Caribbean mini pre-cadet tournament

Eight national ping-pong players will travel to the Dominican Republic on June 29 for the 2024 Caribbean Region Table Tennis Federation Mini and Pre-Cadet Championships.

Zayden Sagramsingh, Trent Sampath and Tristan Soomarie fly red, white and black in the boys U11 doubles; Daniel Bhim, Aaron Noel, Mateo Mollineau and Jared Simon contest the U13 boys doubles; while Elizabeth represents Rajah in the U13 girls doubles.

Curtis Humphreys is the head coach and is assisted by fellow coaches Dennis La Rose and Edwin Humphreys. Sharon Bravo-Phillip is the manager.

The head coach said the team is ready and excited.

For some of them this is their first tournament abroad. This is something they have been training and practicing for a while.”

Humphreys said the TT Table Tennis Association's (TTTTA) Long-Term Athlete Development Program (LTAD), which launched last year in partnership with clubs, has a pool of U11 and U13 players practicing.

This helped us acquire the services of the National Racquet Center (Tacarigua), where we were able to practice for two weeks from Monday to Friday, said Humphreys.

He added that the youngsters benefited from having several top players come to spar to increase their competitive readiness.

Humphreys also complimented the SporTT psychologists who helped the young players strengthen the mental aspect of their game.

He said the coaching staff will collect data during this competition to evaluate after the tournament, in an effort to learn from mistakes and improve the overall play of their players.

The competition will take place from July 1st to 7th.
