Aryna Sabalenka 'Not 100%' definitely for Wimbledon due to 'rare' injury

Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka said on Saturday she is “not 100%” confident of playing her Wimbledon first-round match due to a “very rare” shoulder injury. Sabalenka, a two-time semi-finalist at the All England Club, was forced to abandon her quarter-final match against Anna Kalinskaya in Berlin last week due to the problem. “I'm not 100% fit right now,” admitted the 26-year-old Belarusian, who will face 106th-ranked Emina Bektas of the United States of America in the first round on Monday.
“We are doing everything with my team to make sure I can play my first game here. But no, I am not 100% ready yet.”
When asked if there was a chance she would withdraw on Monday, she said: “There is always a chance, yes.”
Sabalenka said her doctors told her she was “only the second or third tennis player to suffer a (shoulder) muscle injury.”
“It's a really specific injury, and it's really rare.”
Meanwhile, Sabalenka defended her decision to skip the Paris Olympics, which she made the week after her defeat to Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva in the last eight of the French Open.
She said she made the choice to prioritize her health, wary of returning to the clay courts of Roland Garros, where the Olympic tennis event is played.
“I have decided to sacrifice the Olympic Games for my career and my health,” Sabalenka said.
“I really hope I can participate in the next Olympic Games.”
