Meet Uttara Kannada's Raghu Raghavendra, the Throwdown Specialist of the Indian Cricket Team

Raghu once spent his days at a bus stop and a cemetery.
Raghu joined the BCCI in 2008 and was appointed throwdown specialist of Team India in 2011, a position he continues to hold to date.
The entire country is still in celebration mode after Team India’s victory in the T20 World Cup. India defeated South Africa on June 29 to lift the trophy. While names like Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, along with all the other members of the team, are being lauded, Raghavendra, or simply called Raghu by the Indian team, is one man who remains unsung.
Very few fans know Raghavendra, a throwdown specialist for the Indian team. Raghu possesses the rare talent of giving throwdowns to players during practice sessions. This helps them adapt to the speed and bounce of pitches in places like Australia and South Africa.
He has been a regular member of the team for over a decade and does everything he can to support the team. He may not have played on an international field but he is directly responsible for honing the skills of our batsmen and thus contributing to every victory of our team.
Raghavendra hails from Kumta in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. His father, a traditional schoolmaster, never quite understood why his son was so keen on cricket and that he would one day wear the blue shirt. He followed his passion despite his father's disapproval and appeared for the trials in Hubli for the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
He had no place to stay in Hubli and spent his days in a bus stand, a Hanuman temple and finally in a graveyard, without any support from his family. His resilience paid off when he took 4 wickets in a match for the Dharwad Zone Team and became a recognized bowler in the region and was also provided with accommodation by the KSCA.
A hand injury ended his short-lived bowling career. Later, he coached the Karnataka Ranji team and worked for KSCA without salary. He joined BCCI in 2008 and had become Team India's throwdown specialist in 2011, a position he has held till date.
