It was another tough weekend for the Caerphilly County Borough cricket teams as the season reaches its halfway point.

There was good news in division two Blackwood City who, however, entered the weekend with the ambition of achieving their first victory.

They played against a Brecon side who have also struggled this season, with hosts Blackwood coming first.

Brecon posted a solid score of 206 for Blackwood to chase, with the hosts reaching the total with plenty of wickets to spare, but just before the overs ran out.

Blackwood are still bottom after that win, but it could be an important victory to build momentum.

New bridge had a very difficult match against leaders Croesyceiliog, who batted first and posted a very good total of 256.

The home side made a decent effort but fell 44 runs short of a total of 212. Newbridge are sixth after that loss.

In division three, To make were looking for a rebound win at home against Lisvane.

Machen batted first and posted a nice score of 258 for the visitors to chase. Lisvane almost met the total but fell just 12 runs short, giving Machen the victory.

It was an afternoon to quickly forget Crumlinwho hosted a very strong Pontypridd team aiming for promotion.

The visitors batted first and made it a total of 296 for Crumlin to chase. It was a pretty poor effort from the hosts, who could only score 75 runs; all in 23 overs.

Crumlin sits one from the bottom, while Machen rises to fifth.

In division four the match is between Monkswood and Pontymister and Crosskeys Was postponed.

The match between Malpas and Abercarn However, in division seven play was played, with Abercarn batting first and posting an astonishing 248 runs.

Malpas, who is second in the rankings, controlled the chase brilliantly and won by three wickets after reaching 250 runs in 36 overs.

Finally in division ten, Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer played an away game against Creigiau and hoped for their second win of the season.

Cefn Fforest batted first and made it a manageable total of 214 for the hosts to catch, Creigiau eventually catching the visitors in 38 overs with four wickets to spare.

This loss leaves Cefn Fforest at the bottom and still has a lot of work to do this season.
