RHS athlete receives tennis scholarship – Franklin County Times
Russellville High School athlete Addie Strickland has accepted a scholarship to play tennis at Central Alabama Community College, where she plans to major in criminal behavioral psychology.
She has a great serve, said RHS tennis coach Charlotte Dollar. She’s a very strong server and she has a very hard four-handed backhand. She’s a real power player and that suits the game well at the college level. Dollar said Strickland’s tennis experience goes back to playing at the high school level and continued through high school, noting
Strickland was part of the team that finished second in the state in 2022. He was also part of the team that finished second in the state this year.
She's developed that super-duper powerful serve over time, Dollar continued. She's come a long way since she started. She's developed some really good strokes over the years and I'm really excited for her to get this opportunity to play at a junior college. It's also the same junior college that her sister, Elise, played at. I coached her as well.
Strickland said she credits Dollar for her hard work, which has gotten her where she is today.
I want to thank Coach Dollar for all the time and effort she has put into helping me get better, Strickland said. I want to thank my teammates for being there for me and pushing me to be my best. I want to thank my mom and dad for all the time, money and effort they have put into making me a successful tennis player. I want to thank Coach McQueen for giving me the opportunity to play tennis at the collegiate level.
Strickland said she is looking forward to meeting her new teammates, becoming the best tennis player I know and having a successful year.
I enjoy competing to win and making new friends with my teammates, she added.
Her father, Kevin Strickland, also expressed his gratitude.
We are grateful to Russellville City Schools for their dedication to the tennis program, he said. Most schools don’t get that much support from the administration.
