Professional tennis returns to Bloomfield Hills
DETROIT Get ready to witness the exciting return of professional tennis to Southeast Michigan in 2024.
The Cranbrook Tennis Classic welcomes the ATP Challenger Tour to the Cranbrook Tennis Complex campus for the second consecutive year Bloomfield Hills.
Last year, professional tennis returned to the Detroit area for the first time in more than three decades.
We have a large, diverse, and thriving tennis community here in Southeast Michigan, and it bothered me a little bit that there wasn't a professional event, said CTC founder David Demuth. I just made it my mission to bring professional tennis back to Michigan.
The second year of the CTC will see rising stars from around the world compete, including some who reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon and the Australian Open in recent years.
“We have a really exciting field of players from all over the world,” Demuth said. “I would say it's a younger field this year, but there are some really exciting players in there.
JJ Wolf is the highest ranked player in the field this year, having been ranked No. 39 in the world in 2023.
The event is not just about the sport, but also about the future of tennis in Detroit.
All proceeds from the Cranbrook Tennis Classic go to the Palmer Park Tennis Academy, a program that provides tennis lessons to children, and to Cranbrook Athletics, helping to grow the sport we all love.
The Cranbrook Tennis Classic begins on July 1.
The singles final is scheduled for Sunday, July 7, and the doubles final for Saturday, July 6.
