Altnkaya from Trkiye wants to achieve table tennis success in Paris
Sibel Altnkaya, who secured her place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in table tennis thanks to points earned at the WTT Star Contender Tournament in Slovenia, is preparing for the competition in Adana with her coach and husband, Ufuk Altnkaya.
The national athlete is training in the table tennis hall of the new Adana Stadium and hopes to participate in her first Olympic Games, with the aim of achieving a podium finish.
Reflecting on her successes in table tennis since 2003, Sibel attributed many of her achievements to her husband, saying: “I have achieved various awards over the years. I am very happy and proud that I have earned an Olympic quota. Working with my husband is really satisfying. At home he is my husband, in the gym he is always my coach. Our goal is to represent our flag in the best possible way at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.”
Ufuk Altnkaya, who has been a coach for 26 years, remembers meeting his wife Sibel Altnkaya at the Marmaris Trkiye Championship in 2014.
He highlighted her performance at the Balkan Championships and emphasized the strict training regime.
“We train seven hours a day, focusing on both skills and fitness. Our sessions are split between morning and evening, with additional fitness training during our Olympic preparation, including group sessions and one-on-one exercises,” Altnkaya said.
Proud of his wife's discipline and success, Altnkaya added: “She is an incredibly disciplined athlete. She has won silver at the Mediterranean Games, multiple Balkan Championships, seven consecutive European Championships and several other European honours. Her recent achievement of securing an Olympic quota for our country fills us with immense pride. As a husband and coach, I am truly proud of our efforts and the results we have achieved.”
