Zaheem Sabree Killed: High School Football Player Shot, Killed in Chester, Delaware County
CHESTER, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — A high school football player in Chester, Delaware County, was shot and killed over the weekend, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
The shooting happened just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening near 24th Street and Crosby Street.
When officers arrived on scene, they found 17-year-old Zaheem Sabree in the 100 block of East 24th Street.
According to authorities, he suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
Sabree was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
On Tuesday, officials with the Chester Upland School District (CUSD) confirmed that Sabree is a twelfth-grader and a member of the CUSD high school football program.
“Zaheem's shocking passing is a great loss to our school community and impacts everyone from classmates to teachers who had the privilege of knowing him,” a statement from the district said. “His dedication and spirit as a member of our high school football program are irreplaceable and he will be missed by his teammates and coaches, who remember him not only as a player, but as a friend on and off the field.”
The statement further states that the district will provide support services to students and staff through July 3.
Support services are available at STEM Academy in Showalter, located at 1100 West 10th Street in Chester.
Police are also still looking for suspects involved in the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities.
