Former Cox Falcon Crouse is going to the Paris Olympics as a member of the US hockey team
Leah Crouse stumbled upon the sport while on her way to summer camp and has been in love ever since.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. It feels like just yesterday Leah Crouse was heading to Great Neck Recreation Center for summer camp. Now she’s off to Paris, France for the Summer Olympics. The two are actually pretty closely linked.
Hockey takes Leah Crouse all over the world.
“I've been to six continents. Australia…just spent two months in India,” she said. “About a month ago I spent a month in London and Belgium.”
She even masters the art of flying.
“I always wear a mask,” she says. “Always turn off the headphones. Listen to music, read, watch a lot of movies, but mostly just try to sleep.”
On June 10, Crouse found out she was going to the Paris Olympics. She shared the experience with her father Brad after she found out she would be making the U.S. hockey team.
“He's been a rock for me,” she said. “He's always been very supportive.”
Their trip to Paris actually began when she drove past her old school, Cox High School, on the way to summer camp.
“I kept seeing girls with those sticks and I was like, 'What's that?'” she said. “Then I asked my dad and he said, 'That's hockey.' So I just said I want to try that. I want to sign up.”
Her father did not hesitate for a moment.
“He signed me up for a little recreational league,” she said. Leah didn’t either.
“And I immediately fell in love with it.”
