Johns Hopkins Places Eight on Big Ten Distinguished Scholar List
ROSEMONT, IL Eight members of the Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team were recently named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars, it was announced. The list includes students from all 14 institutions, plus affiliates Johns Hopkins and Notre Dame. Collectively, the group participated in 38 different sports and earned a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year.
The 2023-24 class of Distinguished Scholar Award recipients includes 386 students who earned a perfect GPA of 4.0 during the previous academic semester. Campbell case And Maggie Tydings were among the recipients with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Hopkins has now produced 83 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars since joining the league in 2017. Tydings is the eighth player in program history to earn the honor for a third time. Case and Juniors Alayna Costa, Ashley Mackin And Charlotte Smit are double selections.
Big Ten Faculty Representatives established the Distinguished Scholar Award in 2008 to complement the Academic All-Big Ten program. Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full-time at the institution for the entire preceding academic year (two semesters or three quarters), and must have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.70 or higher in the preceding academic year, excluding any summer grades. The Academic All-Big Ten threshold is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for a student's academic career.
