Canada West unveils 2024-25 hockey schedule
CALGARY The Calgary Dinos women's hockey team will open the 2024-25 season at home, the Canada West office announced Tuesday, with the full conference schedule for the coming year revealed.
This year’s schedule follows the format changes announced by the conference last October. Both men’s and women’s hockey will now have two divisions, each consisting of four and five teams, with the divisions rotating through nine teams over six years. Games will be played both inside and outside the division. This year, TWU, UBC, Calgary and Mount Royal will form one division, while Alberta, MacEwan, Saskatchewan, Regina and Manitoba will form the other.
The Dinos open the 2024-25 season on home ice, hosting reigning champions UBC from Oct. 4-5. Calgary then travels east to Saskatchewan, where the Dinos won last year’s playoff series, to take on the Huskies from Oct. 11-12.
The first installment of the Crowchild Classic is on the schedule. The Dinos will play a home and away game against city rival Mount Royal on October 18 and 19, after which they will close the opening month at Trinity Western.
November begins with back-to-back home games against Regina (Nov. 8-9) and UBC (Nov. 15-16), followed by trips to Manitoba (Nov. 22-23) and Trinity Western (Nov. 29-30).
The new year starts with a pair of rival series, with home-and-away weekend series with Mount Royal (Jan. 3-4) and Alberta (Jan. 10-11). After a week off, the Dinos host TWU on Jan. 24-25, before the third and final Crowchild Classic series of the season the following week.
A home-and-away weekend with MacEwan (February 7-8) and a trip to UBC (February 14-15) conclude this year's regular season.
The top three teams in each division will advance to the play-offs, with the top favorite in each division receiving a bye into the first round. The best-of-three quarterfinals will take place from February 21-23 and will see East #2 vs. West #3 and West #2 vs. East #3. The semifinals will follow from February 28-March 2.
The 2025 U SPORTS National Championships are moving east, with the women’s event taking place in Waterloo from March 20-23.
