New Zealand tennis star Lulu Sun wins second round at Wimbledon

Rising star Lulu Sun continued her success at Wimbledon with a victory over Ukrainian Yuliia Starodubtseva in the second round of the women's singles at the All England Club in London.

Just like in her first round, the 23-year-old Sun lost the first set to Starodubtseva 4-6, before winning the second set 6-3.

Sun finished the match, which lasted just over two hours, by winning the third set 6-2.

She will play Chinese Lin Zhu in the third round. Zhu has won straight sets in her first two rounds.

Until this week, Sun had never won a match at a Grand Slam.

Second-seeded New Zealander Erin Routliffe and her Canadian partner Gaby Dabrowski defeated Mirra Andreeva and Anastasia Potapova 6-2 7-5 to advance to the second round, where they will face either a Brazilian or Russian duo.

New Zealand men's doubles players Michael Venus and Marcus Daniell were unable to play their opening round doubles matches as scheduled, as matches were cancelled and rescheduled due to rain delays.

Sun and Routliffe will team up for New Zealand at the Paris Olympics, while Tokyo bronze medallists Venus and Daniell missed out on this year's Olympic selection.
