Cameron named Canada coach for 2025 World Junior Hockey Championships
CALGARY Dave Cameron will return to Canada's bench at the 2025 World Junior Hockey Championships.
On Thursday, Hockey Canada announced Cameron as its new head coach, and the team lineup for the upcoming tournament in Ottawa was also announced.
Cameron, the head coach of the Ontario Hockey League's Ottawa 67's, was the head coach of the Canadian team that won the 2022 junior title. He was also an assistant coach on the 2009 team that won gold in Ottawa.
Canada lost in the quarterfinals of the 2024 championship in Gothenburg, Sweden, after winning two gold medals in a row.
Cameron, 65, has coached the 67s for the past three seasons, including a record-breaking 51-game campaign in 2022-23 that earned him the OHL's Brian Kilrea Coach of the Year Award.
Cameron also coached Canada to a silver medal in the junior division in 2011.
Dave has won two gold medals at the World Junior Championships and has proven to be an outstanding leader for the Canadian Junior National Team. We are excited to have him return to coach our team as we look to capture another gold medal in the nation's capital this year,” said Scott Salmond, senior vice-president of high performance and hockey operations at Hockey Canada, in a news release.
Sylvain Favreau, Mike Johnston and Chris Lazary will serve as assistant coaches on a staff that also includes goalkeeping consultant Justin Pogge and video coach James Emery.
Hockey Canada also announced that Peter Anholt will return to lead the team's management group, while three-time Stanley Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist Brent Seabrook will also return in a management role.
Ottawa is hosting the tournament for the first time since 2009, when Canada won its fifth consecutive title.
