Spore to host WTA Tour tennis tournament from 2025 to 2027
SINGAPORE International tennis competition will return to Singapore in January 2025, with a Womens Tennis Association (WTA) 250 tournament taking place at the new Kallang Tennis Hub under a three-year agreement.
Kallang Alive Sport Management (KASM), which manages the Singapore Sports Hub, made the announcement in a statement on July 4, adding that the event will take place in the week of January 27, 2025.
The Republic last hosted a top women's tennis tournament when Naomi Osaka, Caroline Wozniacki and eventual winner Elina Svitolina faced off in the WTA Finals at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in 2018, the final season of a five-year deal.
In 2021, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), the premier men's tournament, also hosted an ATP 250 Singapore Open at the OCBC Arena.
Quek Swee Kuan, CEO of KASM, said they are excited to rejoin the WTA Tour and bring live tennis action to Singapore for audiences here and in the region.
He added: Our aim is to bring together the tennis community, the wider community and our junior and national athletes to celebrate the sport through larger scale activities, from try-outs to friendly matches, that can be held alongside the tournament.
At the same time, we would like to extend our support to local and regional tournaments that stimulate the growth of the sport and tennis talent in the region.
WTA250 competitions are the lowest category of annual women's tennis tournaments on the main WTA Tour, after the Grand Slams, the WTA Finals and the WTA 1000 and 500 events.
WTA president Steve Simon is confident that the state-of-the-art facilities here will ensure the tournament is a great success.
The Kallang Tennis Hub, which opened in April, features medium to slow surfaces from Laykold, a hard court brand also used at the US Open.
It consists of seven indoor courts in air-conditioned halls, with a capacity of 1,297 seats and an additional 300 retractable seats ready to be deployed.
Two of the three indoor show courts can be configured for tournaments with Hawk-Eye technology or electronic line calling, while all twelve large outdoor courts are also competition-ready.
Alan Goh, CEO of Sport Singapore, believes that this event will further strengthen Singapore’s position as a leading sports destination and inspire tennis enthusiasts to learn, play and watch the sport.

In addition, we hope to create fun side activities that increase the community's interest and participation in tennis.
