Which Big 12 programs are performing the best?

Part Tweet Part Part E-mail Big 12 Media Days is right around the corner and while it’s only July, it’s never too early to start talking recruiting. Of course, there will be a TON of football coverage and content next week, I wanted to take a look at some of the recruiting rankings in the conference as we head into the class of 2025.Before I start my analysis, let's first look at the rankings for July 2024. 2025 Big 12 Recruiting Rankings (as of July 3, 2024)#1 TCU#2 West Virginia#3 Oklahoma State#4 Arizona State#5 Texas Technology#6Houston#7 UCF#8 Baylor#9 Arizona#10 Utah#11 Kansas#12 Cincinnati#13 WITH YOU#14 Kansas State#15 Iowa State#16 Colorado If you look at the top of the 247Sports positions, you will find TCU there at No. 1. The Horned Frogs already have 20 commits, and four of them are four-star prospects. Cornerback Micah Strickland, offensive tackle Logan Schram, along with edge players Chad Woodfork and Jared Martin headline TCU's all-star class.Perhaps one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 rankings is the West Virginia Mountaineers. While they aren't known for having one of the best classes in the Big 12, they currently hold the second-highest-rated class in the conference. Much of that is due to their class size (21), but they do have a four-star prospect in running back Deandre Desinor out of Delray Beach, Florida.If you look further down the list you will see State of Oklahoma And State of Arizonawho each have a pair of four-stars in their class. And a shoutout to Arizona State, because while they may have been tipped dead last in the conference preseason poll this season, Kenny Dillingham has done a great job on the recruiting trail for the Sun Devils. It's only a matter of time before he turns that spot around for the better. Of course I have to talk about the Red Raiders. Joey McGuire is known for being a great recruiter and he’s showing that again this year with three four-star players committed to his 2025 class in receivers Tristian Gentry and Bryson Jones, along with quarterback Lloyd Jones from Lubbock. Say what you want about Joey McGuire during the season, but the man is building something in Lubbock.Two other teams I want to zoom in on are UCF and Kansas State. UCF Knights UCF may not make headlines like they did with their 2024 class, but they are only one of two schools with three four-star players committed, just one shy of TCU. But what really stands out to me about UCF is their average player ranking of 88.51. That’s the highest in the Big 12 and in the Top 20 in the country. It’s not always about quantity, quality matters.Finally, I would like to point out the following Kansas StateWhile the Wildcats may have a highly regarded class, they do have the only five-star commit in the entire Big 12 in tight end Linkon Cure from Goodland, Kansas.Hopefully we see more four-star players make their way to Big 12 country and maybe even a five-star or two. We still have a long way to go before the first signing day in December, but I'm sure there will be no shortage of drama in the never-ending world of college football recruiting.
