Jasmina Tinji, former tennis player from Bosnia and Herzegovina, banned for six years
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) today confirmed that former Bosnia and Herzegovina tennis player Jasmina Tinji has been banned for six years after admitting 23 violations of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP).
The 33-year-old Tinji, who reached a world ranking of 236th in September 2013, pleaded no contest to charges brought by the ITIA relating to corrupt activities in 2017 and 2018. Those charges include influencing the outcome of matches, facilitating bets, receiving money in exchange for not putting in one’s best effort during matches and failing to report corrupt practices.
In 2022, Tinji was found criminally liable for match-fixing in Sweden, the player's country of residence. Subsequently, the Swedish Tennis Association gave Tinji a four-and-a-half-year ban, which applies to all sports in the country.
The ITIA case was adjourned pending the completion of the criminal and domestic proceedings, and was reviewed by independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer (AHO) Janie Soublire, who imposed a six-year suspension and a $20,000 fine on Tinji, of which $18,000 was suspended.
The suspension has been backdated to run concurrently with the period of ineligibility imposed by the Swedish Tennis Association. The suspension began on 18 May 2022 and will end at midnight on 17 May 2028.
During the period of ineligibility, Tinji is prohibited from playing, coaching or attending any tennis event authorized or sanctioned by the members of the ITIA (ATP, ITF, WTA, Tennis Australia, Fdration Française de Tennis, Wimbledon and USTA) or any national association.
The ITIA is an independent body established by its tennis members to promote, encourage, improve and protect the integrity of professional tennis worldwide.
