The rising of the early moon
Many hotels and resorts now offer special packages for early travelers. Hyatt Centric Faneuil Hall Bostonfor example, began offering an early-moon package last summer, Get Away Before the Big Day. The three-night stay, starting at $800, includes a day pass for two; a picnic in Boston Public Garden; dinner at the hotel restaurant, Jules on Devonshire; and a bottle of champagne as a welcome gift.
Earlymooners just want quality time together, so couples love the stress-free aspect of it, says Kevin Matheson, general manager of Hyatt Centric Faneuil Hall Boston. Some even joke about coming back for their babymoon.
Stanley Rancha resort in California's Napa Valley has seen a 15 percent annual increase in couples spending their early moon there since opening in 2022, many of whom live within driving distance in the San Francisco Bay Area, said Laura McIver, the resort's general manager. The Inn at Mattei's Tavern in Los Olivos, California, about a two-hour drive from Los Angeles, has seen a 25 percent increase in couples booking stays before their wedding since opening in February 2023, said Joern Schwaiger, the inn's general manager.
And with Ashford Castle in Mayo, Ireland, the early moon package from $8,500 includes two nights in the hotel's private boathouse; a boat cruise and a picnic on Chiefs Island; a rose quartz massage for couples; and a private wine tasting in the hotel's wine cellar. The hotel has also arranged private consultations with Irish jewelry designer Nigel O'Reilly for people who are getting married early in the day and want to have custom jewelry made in honor of their upcoming wedding.
Before this year, we would have simply called an early moon a vacation or getaway, says Nicole Janoff, senior manager of leisure travel at Magma Worldwidea New York travel agency, which attributes the 10 percent increase in earlymoon travel requests Magma Global has received so far this year to social media posts from couples. The earlymoon trend represents a shift in the way couples are approaching their wedding preparations and prioritizing their time together before the big day.
