Zimbabwe registered a huge 13-run victory over India in the first match of the five-match series at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Saturday, July 6. The victory was special as the Chevrons defended 115 and bowled out the Indian team for 102 in 19.5 overs.
The Indian team, chasing 116 wickets to win, failed to put together a decent partnership as Zimbabwean captain Sikandar Raza and Tendai Chatar took three wickets each. For India, Shubman Gill was the top scorer with 31 while Washington Sundar made 27.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first, Zimbabwe's players failed to make use of their starts as Wessley Madhevere, Brian Bennet and Dion Myers were bowled out in their 20s, while Raza made 17. Ravi Bishnoi took 4/13, but it was Clive Madande's unbeaten 29 from 25 balls and his 25-run stand with Chatra for the final wicket that gave the Zimbabweans a fighting chance.
Earlier, India captain Gill won the toss and decided to field first. Riyan Parag and Abhishek Sharma made their India debuts, while Dhruv Jurel made his T20 international debut for India.
