PCB boss calls Kirsten; deliberates on Babar's future

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has summoned white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten to discuss the team's future, according to Geo News.
The meeting is being held in the wake of recent criticism from some fans and former Pakistani cricketers over the Men in Green's performance during the T20 World Cup.
The main event was that the team led by Babar Azam had a disappointing campaign, which saw them eliminated already in the group stage.
Last week, ESPNcricinfo reported that White-ball head coach Gary Kirsten and selector Wahab Riaz submitted their tour reports to Naqvi.
Sources informed Geo News that Naqvi would review the report submitted by Kirsten. The report highlights the players' discipline, game awareness, fitness and much more.
It was also reported that the main part of the discussion would be the future of Babar Azam as captain of the Pakistan team.
After Pakistan's latest setback, Babar's white-ball captaincy also became a subject of criticism. Former Pakistani cricketers criticized Babar's leadership and captaincy skills.
Last Thursday, Naqvi explained Babar's future as Pakistan captain and stated that no decision had been taken on him yet.
“However, no decision has been taken regarding Babar Azam,” the top cricket official, who is also the interior minister, told reporters in Lahore, as quoted by Geo News. “I am only talking to former cricketers who are interested in improving Pakistan cricket,” he added.
Last week, Geo News also reported that around 30-35 international cricketers will meet the PCB chairman on Monday. They will give their feedback and suggestions to improve the domestic cricket structure in the country.
Pakistan began their T20 World Cup campaign with a Super Over defeat against co-hosts USA. Pakistan’s arch-rivals India compounded their woes by beating them in the low-scoring thriller, where they failed to achieve the 120-run target.
Pakistan returned to winning ways by registering victories in their remaining two matches against Canada and Ireland. However, their late revival was not enough to secure their tickets for the Super 8 stage in the Caribbean.
With a large gap in Pakistan's next white-ball series, the Pakistan management has ample time to make necessary changes to improve their cricket.
After the disappointment in the T20 World Cup, Pakistan will play the next white-ball series against Australia in November.
