Undefeated Washington Freedom aim to secure top-two spot with win over Texas Super Kings

Washington Freedom are desperate to secure a top-two finish in the 2024 Major League Cricket standings when they take on the Texas Super Kings at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Friday.

Our match against TSK on July 19 is scheduled to kick off at 19:30 CT (July 20, 06:00 IST). The MLC 2024 match will be available to watch via live streaming and broadcast.

The top two teams in the rankings after the group stage will play each other in the qualifying match. The winning team will have the chance to go directly to the final.

We currently sit at the top of the MLC 2024 points table with nine points from five games. A win will help us continue our unbeaten run this season and secure a top two spot in the standings.

We beat MI New York by a mammoth 94 runs in our last match in Dallas on Tuesday, with Jasdeep Singh making a memorable debut for us in MLC with a three-wicket haul. Travis Head and Andries Gous also shone with half-centuries.

Although Saurabh Netravalkar didn’t feature in our last match, he still tops the bowling charts for MLC 2024. The left-handed pacer has 12 wickets from four matches at an average of 9.16 and a strike rate of 7.66. Lockie Ferguson and Glenn Maxwell are also in the top five of the wicket-takers list with nine and six wickets respectively.

Meanwhile, Travis Head, after scoring consecutive fifties in the last two games, tops our run-getters list, with captain Steve Smith in second place. Head has amassed 141 runs at an average of 35.25 and a strike rate of 163.95 to secure a spot in the top ten of the overall batting charts, along with Smith.

Jasdeep Singh, who came into the team in our last match against MINY as a replacement for Netravalkar, made an immediate impact with his career-best T20 figures of 3/14 in three overs. He was a tough customer, surprising batters with his pace and bounce.

Jasdeep bowled 13 dot balls in his spell, which put pressure on the MINY middle order, who were succumbing to the increasing scoring rate. Ferguson also contributed two crucial wickets to bowl MINY.

Meanwhile, Andries Gous scored his maiden fifty in MLC to anchor our batting and propel us to a dominant total of 182/5 batting first. Coming into bat during the powerplay, Gous scored 59 off 48 balls before being dismissed on the last ball of the innings.

The fact that three of Gou's four sixes came against leg spinner Rashid Khan is a testament to his class and ability to hit hard. Travis Head again showed his attacking game with a 33-ball 54 to give us a steady start and a solid foundation to play big in the death overs.

The Australian duo of Head and Smith were fierce against the Texas Super Kings bowling attack, chasing 204 in their last encounter on July 9. Unfortunately, rain played spoilsport as we were well placed at 62/0 after just four overs.
