The cricket organisation told their followers on the social media platform: 'We are delighted to welcome Mark Alan Butcher to the National Cricket League USA as our new head coach! Get ready for expert coaching and exciting matches!' alongside a photo of the former England star.
Butcher was clearly shocked by the revelation and was quick to respond to the post with a short three-word explanation, adding: “News to me!!”.

During his active career, Butcher broke into the England team in 1997 and tried to cement his position as an opening batsman. In the following two years, he shone with stunning centuries against South Africa and Australia.
The 51-year-old played 71 Test matches for England, scoring a total of 4,288 runs. He retired from international play in 2004.
Legendary England pace bowler Stuart Broad was one of those who saw the humour in Butcher's inappropriate new role, reacting with the words: 'Good luck coach!!'

Thorpe spent 17 years at Surrey, where he played alongside Butcher, helping the side win three County Championships in four seasons between 1999 and 2002.
