Watson and Whyte lead the way at the 2024 JTTA National Table Tennis Championships
Kane Watson and Keeara Whyte were crowned champions of the 2024 Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) National Senior and Junior Championships, held at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston from September 6-8. Watson made a triumphant return, claiming his sixth national title.
After his retirement, Watson dominated the early stages, winning the first three sets 11-7, 11-3, 11-8 in a seven-set thriller against reigning champion Mark Phillips. However, the loser came back strongly to win the next three sets 11-6, 11-5, 11-9, forcing a deciding seventh set. In a thrilling finale, Watson kept his composure and won the final set 11-9 to secure his remarkable victory.
In the women's singles final, Whyte dethroned reigning champion Tsenaye Lewis with a convincing 4-0, straight sets victory. Whyte sailed through the first set 11-4, but faced strong opposition in the second and third sets, both of which she narrowly won 11-9. In the fourth set, Lewis fought valiantly to extend the match, but Whyte eventually prevailed 12-10 to claim the championship.
Doubles competition
In doubles, Watson teamed with semifinalist Paulton Madden to win the men's doubles title, while sisters Tsenaye and Gianna Lewis secured the women's doubles title.

In the junior competitions we saw several young stars emerge. In the veterans category, Andrea Wadsworth won the women's over 40 title, while Phillip Drummond won the men's over 40 title.
In the team events, Kingston emerged as the top women's parish team, while St. Andrew secured the men's parish title, capping off an exciting weekend of table tennis action.
