Pakistan recently reached a new low in Test cricket after being defeated 2-0 at home by Bangladesh.
The Tigers recorded their first series win against Pakistan.
Ganguly said the current team is a far cry from the glory days when players like Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis formed the backbone of the team.
“I see a real lack of talent in the country. Whenever we think of Pakistan, we think of Miandad, Wasim, Waqar, Saeed Anwar, Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan,” Ganguly told PTI.
“That's the memory of Pakistan for us, but that doesn't win matches in the modern generation of cricket. Every generation has to produce excellent players to win, and when I look at Pakistan in world cricket — I saw them in the West Indies World Cup, in India during the World Cup, and now after losing the Bangladesh series — there is a shortage of talent in that country.
“People associated with the sport in Pakistan will have to look at it. I don't say this with disrespect. Pakistan used to have some great cricketers, who I don't see in this squad,” Ganguly said.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently confirmed that decisions regarding the captaincy of the men's team are taken by coaches and selection committees.
Last week, reports surfaced that Babar Azam could lose the white-ball captaincy. Sources also said that wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan is the most likely candidate to replace Babar for the white-ball captaincy.
