Northern Hockey announces 2024-25 squad
MARQUETTE, Michigan. – Dave Shyiak, Northern Michigan Hockey's first-year head coach, has announced the program's 2024-25 roster. The team features 28 players, including four returning players from last season, and 24 new 'Cats added to the roster for the upcoming season.
The Wildcats will be one of, if not the youngest, in college hockey with a total of 16 freshmen and 20 underclassmen. The roster includes 15 forwards, 10 defensemen and three goalies.
“We're really excited about our group,” Shyiak said. “We have a lot of new faces and a lot of freshmen that are coming in hungry and energetic. They all know that there's a great opportunity for them to earn playing time. Internal competition is going to be healthy for our growth as the season progresses. The most important part of our team and staff is building the culture. We really have to take the time to get to know each other and understand what our values ​​and identity are going to be.”
The redshirt junior returns from last year's selection Jacob Peterson (#23), junior Zach Michaelis (#9), sophomore Tanner Laces (#22), and sophomores Brendan Clothing (#7).
