WTT China Smash 2024 kicks off in Beijing
Men's singles qualifying top man Eduard Ionescu was forced to leave the opening session on Thursday as the World Table Tennis (WTT) Grand Smash touched down in China for the first time.
The world number 58 from Romania, aged just 19, squandered a two-match lead and a total of five match points in the decider as his 90th-ranked opponent Deni Kozul won the five-match marathon 7-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-3, 15-13.

Kozul, who is vying for a first main draw appearance in a WTT Grand Smash event, will next play Gustavo Gomez in the three-round qualifiers.
